Tea consumption increased dramatically during the early nineteenth century. Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford was complaining of "having that sinking feeling" during the late afternoon, at that time people were used to have only two meals a day. The traditional time for afternoon tea is any time between three and five o’clock.
